Henry Wang (b. 2005) is a composer and improviser influenced by minimalism and jazz. His work explores themes of humanity and technology, as well as the interplay between music and its surrounding soundscapes. Performances of his compositions have spanned the globe, appearing in venues such as Jordan Hall in Boston, the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, and Pacific Spirit United Church in Vancouver. Frequently featured in the Yamaha International JOC Selection, he was chosen as China’s sole representative for the 2018 Yamaha JOC Master Class in Singapore. He is the winner of the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s Young Composers’ Competition (2023) and the recipient of the American Prize in Composition (2024) and the Margery MacColl Award for Excellence in Music (2025).
In 2020, Wang co-founded the Beijing region of the Back to Bach Project, marking its inception in China. This international non-profit initiative is dedicated to advancing music and arts education for children. Wang has held various roles within the organization and currently serves as Senior Director of Global Operations.
Wang also posts piano rearrangements of popular and anime music on his Bilibili, YouTube, and NetEase Cloud Music channels under the alias remonedo.
Wang is currently a student at Brown University, pursuing a double concentration in Music and Applied Mathematics-Computer Science. He studies composition with Eric Nathan and Wang Lu, and jazz piano with Ronald Sanfilippo. His previous mentors include Zheng Xu and Tiange Zhou.
